Where Nogolí is Located

Nogolí is located in the Cuyo region, in the central-northern sector of the province of San Luis. It belongs to the Belgrano department and is positioned as one of the most important tourist towns in the area.

One of its peculiarities is the origin of its name: it is indigenous and comes from the camiare language, spoken by those who inhabited the region in the past. The most accepted translation is "Clear waters," although there is a second variant that associates it with the presence of walnut trees in the area, hence it is also called "Water of the walnut."

What to Do in Nogolí

The main attraction for tourism in the town is the Nogolí Reservoir Dike. There, canoeing, kayaking, and windsurfing are practiced thanks to the calmness of its waters. Additionally, fishing is allowed along the waterfront or in non-motorized boats, where it is common to catch pejerreyes.

For those seeking a more adventurous experience, the site offers a wide range of activities: trekking and hiking are among the most popular. To explore a larger area, there are also circuits for practicing mountain biking or horseback riding.

Finally, for the more adventurous, there are rappelling and zip-lining, which add a touch of adrenaline to one of the most tranquil places in San Luis. The experience is completed with a gastronomic tour of Nogolí.

Among the delights to be tasted, there are several to consider. Lunch and dinner feature the famous chivito puntano, grilled or baked in a clay oven and seasoned with mountain herbs. Regional empanadas are the ideal starter, but in colder seasons, the stars are locro and humita.

The production of walnuts in the area also invites enjoyment of pastries made with nuts in alfajores, tarts, and puddings, all handmade. The tea houses, with local infusions, give a distinctive touch to the town.

How to Get to Nogolí

From San Luis capital, access is via National Route 146 until the marked detour that connects with Provincial Route 3. After a 45-minute journey covering the 48 kilometers between both points, you arrive at the access to Nogolí, with a well-maintained paved road.

The San Luis Bus Terminal offers several options for travelers. There are daily services every 2 or 3 hours, which increase in frequency during high seasons or long weekends. The route passes through various towns, and the stop is at the main square of Nogolí.
