Six Companies Passed Defense Ministry Tests for Purchasing Drones with Machine Vision

The Ministry of Defense and the Brave1 defense innovation cluster tested seven developments of UAVs with automatic targeting on moving ground targets. Six manufacturers successfully passed the tests and received recommendations for procurement. The drone was required to fly 2 kilometers, detect and lock onto a moving lightly armored target from a distance of at least 500 meters, and hit it autonomously. Multi-rotor UAVs larger than 10 inches with a payload of at least 2 kg were tested. To successfully pass the tests, the target had to be hit at least twice out of three attempts. Since the beginning of the year, the number of hits using AI-assisted targeting has increased tenfold. The Ministry of Defense and Brave1 plan to scale the use of AI-based automatic targeting technology and machine vision in the military. The conducted tests were the first large-scale testing of this technology under a unified scenario and specific criteria. In Ukraine, more than 200 companies are engaged in the development of AI drones.
