The presidential candidate for the Republic of Brazil from the Mission party, Renan Santos, participated in the Blockchain Rio 2026 event and reaffirmed his commitment to bitcoin in front of the community.
Before speaking with the community, he talked to the press about Flávio Bolsonaro's affiliation with his Mission party, which came to light on Thursday (13). According to Santos, "some internet troll or someone from Bolsonaro's own party registered him," with the presidential candidate indicating that he awaits explanations from Flávio and his team, as well as an investigation by the TSE and PF, which already have evidence sent by his team.
After explaining the new tension between the right-wing candidates competing in the 2026 elections, he returned to the main stage at the event's conclusion.
Renan Santos promises that "he will make Brazil a friendly country for those who invest in bitcoin."
When asked during Blockchain Rio about the current demands pressuring the cryptocurrency market from regulators, Santos indicated that the country has been losing human capital due to strict rules in various sectors.
"Young people are leaving Brazil to go to other countries; we want to retain talent and attract foreigners." According to the candidate from the Mission party, he made it clear that if elected, he will make the country friendly to those who invest in cryptocurrencies.
"Access to cryptocurrencies, people will have in any case; the question is whether Brazil will be a friendly country for the future value reserve of new generations or if we will be archaic. Brazil has chosen the archaic path; we like to make mistakes, and the idea of having an IOF and taxation is grumpy in favor of the bank lobbies and not in talking to the community that ended up generating a productive sector," he said.
With direct coverage from Livecoins, Renan Santos also declared that he intends to create a blockchain system to better regulate the parliamentary amendment system, bringing more transparency and tracking to the public.
He also spoke about the country's potential in the artificial intelligence sector and the generation of electric power, both wind and solar.
"Bitcoin will be a reliable reserve in an increasingly crisis-ridden world."
When asked about being the only presidential candidate in Brazil's history to advocate for a bitcoin reserve, Renan Santos stated that the currency is important for a world in crisis.
"Bitcoin is a historical reserve for a world in crisis," he said. He declared that the US Dollar as a currency is losing strength in his future vision, with regional realignments and even possible wars between countries.
He said that if elected, the country will be crypto-friendly and will attract companies and people to invest and grow the local ecosystem.
When asked if Brazil has the potential to surpass the adoption experienced by bitcoiners in El Salvador, Santos stated that yes, as the country took a small action but of great proportions.
Finally, the candidate said that to become the largest crypto-friendly nation, Brazil needs to take a different path than that experienced by Europe and other countries, adopting technology and making a leap in the sector to stand out from the rest.
"Commitments: the bitcoin reserve is already given, it will happen. To end all this archaic power of taxation that we talked about, we hope to make Rio almost a city-state to be friendly to cryptocurrencies. Here I will not throw a proposal but an invitation for the amendment management project, for the crypto community to help us. Additionally, an invitation for the crypto community to participate in the new regulation, as the one coming into effect, in my view, is being driven by the lobby. Commitment made, commitment filmed." Renan Santos talks about bitcoin reserve in Brazil.
