The repayment deadline in the Mt. Gox (MtGox Co., Ltd.) civil rehabilitation is 31 October 2026 (Japan Standard Time), set by "Notice Concerning Change of Repayments Deadline" from Rehabilitation Trustee Nobuaki Kobayashi, Attorney-at-law, on 27 October 2025, which with the court's permission moved the date back one year. It covers three things: the Base Repayment, Early Lump-Sum Repayment, and Intermediate Repayment (collectively, the "Repayments"). It restates only what the trustee has published on mtgox.com, and marks the absences as absences.
Reporting called the October 2025 move a third delay. The trustee's own notices record five changes; three works only by counting the annual 31 October postponements and dropping the two made during 2023.
| Announcement | From | To (JST) |
|---|---|---|
| — (earliest value in the notices) | — | 31 July 2023 |
| 6 January 2023 | 31 July 2023 | 30 September 2023 |
| 9 March 2023 | 30 September 2023 | 31 October 2023 |
| 21 September 2023 | 31 October 2023 | 31 October 2024 |
| 10 October 2024 | 31 October 2024 | 31 October 2025 |
| 27 October 2025 | 31 October 2025 | 31 October 2026 |
Nothing retrieved establishes 31 July 2023 as the figure set by the Rehabilitation Plan, so it is the earliest publicly announced deadline, not the original one. The first two changes followed changes to the separate Selection and Registration deadline; the last three were standalone one-year extensions. The September 2023 notice names the Tokyo District Court.
Two delivery routes are published: payment in Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash through designated cryptocurrency exchanges and custodians, and payment in cash proceeds from their sale. The notice of 27 March 2025, sixth in its series, records repayments in July-August 2024 and January-March 2025, reaching over 19,500 rehabilitation creditors as of that date, with no update published since. The Japanese notice is operative; the English PDF is headed as a reference translation and orders the three types differently.
Selection of Repayment Method and Registration of Payee Information ran 10 January, then 10 March, then 6 April 2023 (JST), where it closed. It carries a stated consequence: a creditor who did not complete it cannot receive those repayments and must collect Japanese yen in cash in person from a place the trustee designates, with deposit at the Legal Affairs Bureau as the fallback. That attaches to the 2023 registration deadline, not to 31 October 2026.
The trustee has not published what happens after that date. No notice says claims are forfeited, extinguished, deposited or converted, so explanations along those lines have no primary support.
Per the 27 October 2025 notice: the Repayments were largely complete for creditors who finished the necessary procedures without problems, but many still had not received theirs because those procedures were incomplete, and a considerable number had not because of issues arising during the process; reaching them so far as reasonably practicable is desirable, so the trustee moved the deadline with the court's permission. The 10 October 2024 notice gives word-for-word identical reasoning, only the dates differing. The 21 September 2023 extension gave a more specific reason: the time needed to gather and confirm creditor information and to hold discussions with the banks, fund transfer providers and designated exchanges involved.
No retrieved source reports or attributes any such expectation. The recordable fact is backward-looking: the three preceding annual deadlines were each extended by one year, each announced before the then-current deadline expired.

Japan and the United States bought yen together on 31 July 2026, their first coordinated yen-buying operation since June 1998, and the currency has since firmed from a 40-year low of 163.99 into the 155-156 area.
