    TL;DR
    • Nvidia will invest up to $3 billion in Lancium, highlighting power infrastructure as a critical driver of the next phase of AI growth.
    • The deal strengthens Nvidia's long-term AI strategy but is unlikely to have a meaningful near-term impact on earnings.
    • Wall Street remains constructive on NVDA, though investors should continue watching valuation, AI capex trends, competition, and upcoming earnings.
    • Want to trade Nvidia and 300+ tokenized stocks? Today is the final day of the WEEX TradFi Trading Fest. Join the event for your last chance to hare the $50,000 prize pool before the event ends.

Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) is trading near $223.96 today, up 2.27% and sitting just 5.6% below its 52-week high of $236.54. But the catalyst isn't a new chip launch or a blowout earnings beat — it's a $3 billion bet on electricity.
This week, Nvidia agreed to invest up to $3 billion in Lancium, a Texas-based power infrastructure developer, in a move that signals where the next phase of the AI trade is headed. For investors asking whether Nvidia is still a buy this deep into its run, the Lancium deal is worth understanding — not because it changes the chip business, but because it reveals what Nvidia thinks the real bottleneck to AI growth has become.

What Happened: Nvidia's $3 Billion Bet on Lancium

Under the terms of the deal, Nvidia will initially commit $2 billion for roughly a 20% equity stake in Lancium, with an additional $1 billion available if the company hits specific grid-connectivity milestones. The agreement values Lancium — including its land holdings and power infrastructure — at approximately $10 billion.
Lancium isn't a chipmaker or a cloud provider. It specializes in acquiring land and securing electrical grid connections for large-scale data center campuses — the Blackstone-backed company owns a 1,000-acre "Clean Campus" in Abilene, Texas, which serves as the first operational site for the Stargate project, the AI infrastructure joint venture between SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle. The Abilene site alone is planned to reach 1.2 gigawatts of capacity across eight buildings.
The timing matters. On August 3, Texas Governor Greg Abbott ordered an audit of data center projects seeking grid connections, as the state's grid operator, ERCOT, works through more than 474 gigawatts of pending connection requests. Power — not chip supply — has become the practical constraint on how fast new AI data centers can be built. By taking a direct stake in a company that controls land and grid access, Nvidia is moving from simply supplying GPUs to securing the physical infrastructure its biggest customers need to actually deploy them.

Why Is Nvidia Investing $3 Billion in AI Power Infrastructure?

The Lancium investment reflects a broader shift in how Nvidia views the AI industry. Over the past several years, the company's biggest challenge was producing enough GPUs to meet surging demand. Today, however, another constraint is emerging: power availability.
Building an AI data center is no longer just about buying more chips. Developers also need land, transmission infrastructure, and access to the electrical grid before thousands of GPUs can be deployed. In markets like Texas, where hundreds of gigawatts of grid connection requests are already waiting for approval, securing electricity has become just as important as securing semiconductors.
By investing directly in Lancium, Nvidia is positioning itself closer to this next stage of AI infrastructure. The company isn't trying to become a utility provider. Instead, it's helping ensure that its largest customers—including hyperscalers and AI infrastructure developers—can build new data centers without power constraints becoming the limiting factor. In that sense, the investment is less about today's earnings and more about protecting long-term GPU demand.

Nvidia Stock Forecast 2026: NVDA Price Targets and Earnings Outlook

Nvidia's next earnings report, due August 26, will be the more important near-term catalyst than the Lancium deal itself. Analysts will be watching data center revenue growth, gross margin trends as newer Blackwell-generation chips ramp, and any updated commentary on export dynamics with China.
Beyond the print itself, three themes are shaping the 2026 setup:
    • Hyperscaler capex. Major cloud providers have been raising capital expenditure guidance through the year, and that spending flows disproportionately toward Nvidia's GPU and networking hardware.
    • Power as the new bottleneck. The Lancium investment is part of a broader pattern of chipmakers and cloud providers securing energy infrastructure directly, rather than assuming utilities and grid operators can keep pace with demand.
    • Customer concentration. Nvidia's exclusive GPU supply relationship with SpaceX, disclosed on its latest earnings call, underscores how dependent Nvidia's growth story is on a small number of very large AI buildouts continuing to expand.

Nvidia Stock Risks: Valuation, Competition and Export Restrictions

No stock this size is a one-way bet, and Nvidia carries several risks worth weighing before treating any of the above as a reason to buy:
    • Valuation premium. Even at a lower-than-average P/E, Nvidia trades at a premium reflecting near-flawless execution expectations. Any stumble in AI demand growth could compress the multiple quickly.
    • Insider selling. GuruFocus data shows net insider selling of roughly $410.6 million over the past three months — not necessarily a red flag on its own, but worth factoring into a full picture.
    • Competitive pressure. AMD and other chipmakers continue to invest heavily in competing AI accelerators, and any credible alternative to Nvidia's Blackwell architecture could dent pricing power over time.
    • Export policy uncertainty. Nvidia's H200 chip shipments to China remain a politically sensitive area, with officials continuing to weigh in on volumes and restrictions.
None of this means Nvidia is a bad stock — but "is Nvidia a good stock to buy" doesn't have a single answer independent of an investor's time horizon, risk tolerance, and existing portfolio concentration in tech and AI names.

Is Nvidia a Good Stock to Buy in 2026?

The Lancium deal alone won't move Nvidia's earnings in any meaningful way — it's a strategic hedge, not a new revenue line. The more useful question for investors is where Nvidia's valuation and fundamentals stand heading into the back half of 2026.
    MetricCurrent Reading
    Share price~$223.96
    52-week range$164.07 – $236.54
    Market cap~$5.42 trillion
    P/E (TTM)34.3x (vs. 5-year median of 58.12x)
    Analyst 1-year price target$302.83 (~35% upside)
GF Value estimate$376–$383 (flagged as undervalued by GuruFocus models)
    Next earnings dateAugust 26, 2026
Two things stand out. First, Nvidia's current P/E is well below its own five-year median, which is unusual for a stock still putting up double-digit year-over-year revenue growth — a sign that the market hasn't fully re-rated the stock even after its recent run. Second, Wall Street's average price target still implies meaningful upside from current levels, reflecting continued confidence in AI infrastructure spending from hyperscalers like Microsoft, Amazon, Google, and Oracle.
That said, valuation models built on discounted cash flow assumptions (like GF Value) can be sensitive to growth assumptions that may not hold if AI capex growth slows. Investors shouldn't treat "undervalued" labels as a guarantee — they're one input, not a forecast.

    Nvidia Stock FAQ

Should I buy Nvidia stock now?
That depends on your investment horizon and risk tolerance. Nvidia's valuation multiple has come down relative to its own history even as analyst price targets still imply upside, but the stock remains sensitive to AI capex trends and any earnings disappointment.
Is Nvidia stock overvalued or undervalued?
By traditional metrics like forward P/E relative to its five-year median, Nvidia looks less stretched than it has in past years. Some valuation models suggest the stock is undervalued relative to fair-value estimates, though these depend heavily on assumptions about future AI infrastructure spending.
What is Nvidia's stock price target for 2026?
Current Wall Street consensus puts the average 12-month price target at roughly $302.83, implying about 35% upside from current levels, though individual analyst targets vary widely based on assumptions about AI demand durability.

With Senate leadership confirming there won't be a floor vote before the August recess, the bill's best window this year may already be closing.
Why Did Bitcoin Initially Drop After the Fed Held Rates Steady?

Why Did Bitcoin Initially Drop After the Fed Held Rates Steady?

The Fed kept interest rates unchanged at 3.50%–3.75%, but Bitcoin still slipped from about $64,176 to $63,620 shortly after the decision — a drop of roughly 0.9%. The rate hold itself wasn't the surprise; markets had already priced that in. What likely weighed on price was the unexpectedly hawkish 9–3 vote, with three Fed officials pushing for a rate hike instead. Ethereum fell in tandem, and the same 24-hour window saw more than $400 million in leveraged crypto positions liquidated — a pattern consistent with leveraged traders rapidly repositioning after a more hawkish vote split than expected.
