Etched has delivered its first AI inference rack to Jane Street and has initiated a $700 million investment round. Following this investment, the company's valuation has been assessed at $21 billion. Founded in 2022, Etched is a San Jose-based AI semiconductor startup that develops rack-based systems tailored for AI model inference tasks. The company announced that its first chip was produced using TSMC's N4P process in June and secured customer contracts exceeding $1 billion. In July, it raised $300 million in a Series C round led by Sequoia Capital. Etched's core claims focus on power efficiency and latency, optimizing low-voltage inference and cluster-scale memory architecture through its 'Frontier Inference Cluster.' The initial product is named Sohu, a dedicated semiconductor focused on specific computations. Jane Street is both the lead investor in this round and an early customer, stating that they have tested Etched's chips and are satisfied with the initial results. The delivery of Etched's first rack marks a significant milestone as the product moves out of the laboratory, with the potential for large-scale commercial deployment to be revealed through further validation.
