OpenAI has optimized the long conversation experience for ChatGPT and Codex, with a rollout expected next week. Internal testing shows that the average opening time for a 741-turn, 231MB chat has decreased from 27.62 seconds to 1.66 seconds, representing an approximate 94% improvement in loading speed. This optimization primarily targets chat history loading rather than the speed of model responses. During testing, the number of chat entries to be loaded decreased from 15,529 to 64, and the number of requests dropped from 894 to 16, resulting in a 41.2% reduction in overall app memory growth. This improvement will significantly reduce the waiting time for users when opening old conversations, addressing the lag issue during long-thread chats due to the client needing to process a large volume of historical messages.
