The BNB Chain vulnerability in key management led to the launch of the ASTEROID token: a former employee retained access to the seed phrase of a wallet that was previously used in a tutorial video on token creation.
The BNB Chain team discovered a serious security issue with an address created for demonstration purposes. The wallet emerged during the preparation of an official video about the launch of meme coins on BNB Chain, and its address remained visible on the blockchain. Due to the transparency of the network, any user could verify the history of such an address.
During the recording of the tutorial video, developers used a real address. Later, an employee associated with the creation of this wallet left the company but retained unauthorized access to the seed phrase. After that, he generated a new private key and launched the ASTEROID token.
Investors noticed that the token was created from an address that appeared in the official BNB Chain video. This became a signal of trust for part of the market: participants decided that the project might be related to the network team and began actively purchasing the asset.
In the Binance ecosystem, such incidents are particularly sensitive: BNB Chain, BNB Smart Chain (blockchain platform), and BSC are often perceived by users as part of one large cryptocurrency market, where the reputation of an address can influence investors' decisions just as much as official statements.
