  1. The key next signal is execution rather than the announcement itself. The market still needs clarity on issuance structure, distribution, custody, and whether the token will reach meaningful exchange and DeFi venues after launch.
  2. Ethereum is central to the thesis. If regulated bank-led euro liquidity is issued on a public chain, market participants will watch whether that translates into usable on-chain settlement and deeper euro-denominated activity rather than a limited pilot.
  3. Regulatory positioning also matters. Qivalis is being presented as MiCA-aligned, but the commercial impact will depend on how smoothly regulated institutions can move from compliance status to actual market access and integrations.

Qivalis, a consortium of 37 partner banks, plans to launch a euro stablecoin on Ethereum by the end of the year, according to the project announcement and a post from Ethereum’s institutional account describing it as a regulated euro stablecoin being developed under MiCA.

The announcement centers on Qivalis’s decision to deploy its planned euro stablecoin on Ethereum instead of keeping the product within a closed banking environment. According to the disclosed details, the consortium expects to launch by year-end and is framing the token as benefiting from an interbank structure rather than being tied to a single bank.

Ethereum’s institutional account said Qivalis is developing a regulated euro stablecoin under Europe’s Markets in Crypto-Assets framework. The stated rationale for using a public blockchain is to reach liquidity, users, and decentralized finance markets that would be harder to access through a private system.

The announcement did not provide details on issuance size, launch sequence, exchange support, banking access points, or which services the 37 partner banks will handle directly. It also did not specify how the token will be integrated into trading, payments, or on-chain collateral use after issuance.

The launch comes in a stablecoin market still dominated by dollar-linked tokens. The original announcement said dollar-pegged stablecoins account for about 99.5% of a roughly $300 billion market, leaving euro-denominated products as a much smaller segment. Qivalis also said the project could benefit from a token standard under study on Ethereum for confidential and regulatory-compliant assets.

Why It Matters

This is a notable test of whether regulated European financial institutions are prepared to use a public blockchain for tokenized money rather than limiting blockchain activity to private or permissioned networks. A bank-backed euro stablecoin on Ethereum would add to the broader push to connect regulated finance with open blockchain infrastructure.

The announcement also matters for the shape of the stablecoin market in Europe under MiCA. If Qivalis can move from a year-end target to real issuance and distribution, it could help expand euro-denominated on-chain liquidity in a market where dollar-based stablecoins remain overwhelmingly dominant.
