UK Allocates $135.5 Million to Ukraine for Air Defense

The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with military assistance amounting to £100 million ($135.5 million) to strengthen air defense ahead of winter. The package includes interceptor missiles for the Patriot system, artillery shells, and drones. The funds will be channeled through the NATO Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) to finance the procurement of American weapons. The equipment is expected to arrive in Ukraine by the beginning of winter to protect critical infrastructure and civilians from Russian attacks. The British side is also continuing to fulfill its commitments to deliver over 120,000 drones by 2026, of which about 25,000 have already been delivered. In the coming months, Ukraine will receive tens of thousands of long-range artillery shells funded by the UK and other countries. UK Defense Secretary Grant Shapps noted that the Ukrainian side expressed the need for additional support ahead of winter. The new assistance comes amid the UK's decision to allow MBDA to disclose secret information about the components of the SCALP missile to establish local assembly lines in Ukraine.
