Analysts say that U.S. President Donald Trump is attempting to force Iran to end the war on American terms through a new round of sanctions, maritime blockades, and economic pressure on Iran's trading partners. However, the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has effectively taken control of the Strait of Hormuz and has launched drone attacks in the Persian Gulf multiple times, demonstrating its immunity to economic pressure and its capacity for retaliation. A key moment for U.S. actions will be on Monday, when Treasury Secretary Mnuchin will unveil details of a new plan aimed at shifting the method of conflict from airstrikes to comprehensive economic isolation. If economic pressure proves effective, Iran may respond with military strikes on energy facilities along the Persian Gulf, attempting to drive up oil prices and increase the cost of U.S. actions, thereby forcing Trump to change his strategy.
