A logistics worker accused of assaulting the mother of a crypto entrepreneur in Élancourt in July 2023 appeared before the Versailles Court of Appeal to request his release. The 36-year-old man, charged along with three accomplices, denies having directly participated in the kidnapping. The victim, a woman in her fifties, was attacked at her home by men posing as delivery workers. They tied her up, threatened her with a hammer and a machete, and demanded that her son, the head of a Bitcoin company in New York, pay 10 million euros in cryptocurrencies. The assailants ultimately received 30,000 euros before fleeing. The investigation led to the arrest of the logistics worker as he attempted to leave the country. Two accomplices were arrested later, and all three will be tried together, while the alleged mastermind has been sentenced to 25 years in prison in Morocco.
