Samsung and SK Hynix Memory Inventory Drops to Less Than 10 Days, Storage Market May Face Supply Tightness in 2027
On September 7, Serenity reported that the memory inventory of Samsung and SK Hynix has fallen to less than 10 days of supply, with a severe shortage expected next year. KB Securities predicts that the memory market will face the tightest supply conditions in history by 2027. They also estimate that the proportion of memory costs in AI infrastructure spending will rise from about 40% this year to 57% next year, with TrendForce's forecast even reaching 68%. Related storage stocks have dropped about 38% from their highs over the past three months, with the price-to-earnings ratio falling to around 3 times based on expected performance next year. In the NAND sector, Phison's market commentary also points to extreme supply tightness in 2027. The surge in NAND prices has forced some Chinese consumer-grade storage module manufacturers to clear their inventories, providing Phison with opportunities to procure stock at lower prices, indicating that localized price declines can coexist with overall supply shortages. Serenity believes that against the backdrop of sustained AI demand and rising storage cost proportions, South Korean storage stocks and U.S. companies like MU and SNDK may benefit from the supply-demand tightness and infrastructure spending growth in 2027.
