MultiversX to pause transactions for 24 minutes during Supernova upgrade
MultiversX will pause new transactions for approximately 24 minutes to implement the Supernova upgrade, set to activate on Sept. 10. This upgrade aims to increase blockchain speed by 10 times, reducing block times from six seconds to 600 milliseconds. Over 5,000 nodes must migrate to new software to accommodate the changes. The upgrade will allow validators to vote on blocks while execution occurs in parallel, enhancing efficiency. Intra-shard finality is expected to drop below 250 milliseconds, while cross-shard settlement time will decrease from about 18 seconds to roughly 2.4 seconds. As of Sept. 1, 95.35% of MultiversX's 5,171 nodes were still running the old software version, indicating that preparations for the upgrade are ongoing. The transition will involve a temporary slowdown before the new faster network takes over, with new transactions queued during the pause. MultiversX's EGLD token recently crossed 4 dollars, showing renewed momentum ahead of the upgrade.
