Major Banks Plan to Launch Tokenized Deposit Network by 2027
JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, Citigroup, and Wells Fargo are collaborating to build a shared tokenized deposit network, operated by payment company The Clearing House, with plans to launch in the first half of 2027. This network will convert commercial deposits into tokens that can be transferred between member banks around the clock, with multinational corporations as the initial users. The offerings will include programmable treasury services, real-time liquidity management, and cross-border payments. David Watson, CEO of The Clearing House, stated that this project represents a significant initiative for banks. JPMorgan's Kinexys platform processes an average of over $7 billion daily and has handled more than $4 trillion since its launch; Citi Token Services has been operational in the U.S., U.K., Singapore, and Hong Kong, transferring billions of dollars through Citigroup's own network.
