Fixed Term in Dollars: How Much Do I Earn If I Invest US$3,500 for 30 Days
Fixed terms in dollars are one of the available alternatives for those looking to earn a return without converting their savings into pesos. However, the rates offered by banks are usually considerably lower than those corresponding to placements in national currency.
For this reason, before making an investment, it is important to compare the annual nominal rate (TNA) offered by each institution. The difference between one bank and another can modify the final result, even when it comes to a short-term placement.
With an investment of US$3,500 for 30 days and a reference rate of 1.80% nominal annual, the estimated profit would be approximately US$5.18. At the end of the term, the saver would receive a total close to US$3,505.18, always according to the current conditions of the chosen institution.
To calculate the return on a fixed term, one must take into account the invested amount, the interest rate, and the number of days during which the money will remain immobilized. In a traditional 30-day placement, interest is calculated proportionally based on the annual rate reported by the bank.
Taking as an example a rate of 1.80% TNA, an investment of US$3,500 would generate an estimated interest of US$5.18 in 30 days. Thus, at the maturity of the fixed term, the initial capital plus interest would reach approximately US$3,505.18.
The result may vary depending on the chosen financial institution. Banks do not necessarily offer the same rate for fixed terms in foreign currency, so comparing the conditions before investing can lead to a difference in the final return.
The calculation of interest can be performed using a formula that takes the invested capital and applies the annual nominal rate proportionally to the chosen term. For a 30-day placement, the return represents only a part of the rate corresponding to a whole year.
In the case of an investment of US$3,500, with a TNA of 1.80%, the estimated calculation is: capital multiplied by the annual rate and by the days of the placement, divided by the 365 days of the year. The result yields a profit close to US$5.18.
This calculation allows savers to know in advance how much they could obtain. However, the final result will depend on the current rate at the time of establishing the fixed term, as institutions may modify the returns they offer for new investments.
Before establishing a fixed term, it is important to verify the minimum term, the amount required by the institution, and the rate offered for that period. Some institutions also set different conditions depending on the channel used to carry out the operation.
Another fundamental aspect is to compare the return between different banks. The rates of fixed terms in dollars may present differences, so the same investment can generate different interest depending on where the funds are placed.
Finally, the saver must consider that during the agreed period, the money remains committed until maturity, according to the conditions of the product. Therefore, knowing the rate in advance and calculating the estimated profit allows evaluating whether the expected return is convenient for the savings objective.
