Federal Reserve's Powell Lawyer Says Mortgage Dispute May Be Due to 'Typographical Error'
BlockBeats News, August 29. An attorney for Federal Reserve Board Governor Lael Brainard argued that the mortgage dispute that led to Trump's request to fire her may have stemmed from an "inadvertent paperwork error," aiming to undermine Trump and FHFA Director Mark Calabria's fraud allegations. The legal team stated that even if there was an error, it was not intentional deception, and no one was harmed, involving the legal "substantive" standard.
"Brainard long before joining the Board may have mistakenly marked the home's use in the mortgage application, but there was neither intent nor substantive impact, which does not constitute the 'just cause' required for removal." The attorney wrote in a filing for a temporary restraining order. The legal team also pointed out that Trump and Calabria did not even explicitly allege that Brainard benefited from the error or that the error was intentional. (Golden Finance)
Earlier, Federal Reserve Board Governor Lael Brainard sued U.S. President Trump, protesting his move to dismiss her from the Fed position.
