Fear and Greed Index Provides Hourly Investor Sentiment for Domestic Stock Market
A Fear and Greed Index that quantifies the investment sentiment of the KOSPI and KOSDAQ has been launched. This index aggregates stock discussions, news, and market data to indicate whether investor sentiment leans towards fear or greed. HanKyung AICell announced this index through its AI investment information service, EpicAI, on the 6th. The Fear and Greed Index serves as a thermometer for the sentiment in the Korean stock market and is calculated based on data from the past three years. The index value fluctuates between -2 and 2, with values from -1 to 1 classified as neutral, 1 to 2 as greed, and values exceeding 2 as extreme greed. The index is composed of 50% stock discussions, 25% news, and 25% market data. Kim Hyung-min, CEO of HanKyung AICell, explained that this index is designed to analyze investor reactions alongside the flow of information. While similar to the Fear and Greed Index in the cryptocurrency market, this index focuses on the securities market and the KOSDAQ market. It can be used as a reference indicator to confirm the concentration of market sentiment.
