Anthropic's Claude Fable 5 recorded a 6% token purchase rate based on July figures. Claude Opus 5 is priced at half, revealing the price sensitivity in the AI model market. According to Ramp's AI index, Fable 5 accounts for 6% of the token purchases for Anthropic models and 11.4% of model spending. Fable 5 is set at $10 per million tokens for input and $50 per million tokens for output, while Opus 5 is priced at $5 per million tokens for input and $25 per million tokens for output, making it half the cost. Anthropic stated that Opus 5 is close to the frontier intelligence of Fable 5 while being half the price. The price difference between the two models has been a point of comparison in actual corporate usage, but access to Fable 5 was halted just three days after its release due to U.S. government export control directives. Access to Fable 5 was restored on July 1, and it was announced that usage credits would be required for subscription plans. Ramp explained that the low token share of Fable 5 demonstrates that high performance does not always lead to higher spending. The competition among AI models is evolving to consider price, access conditions, and data retention policies in performance comparisons.
