Ed Zitron Claims Generative AI is a Scam, Exaggerating Capabilities and Financial Data

By: www.theblockbeats.info|2026/08/29 01:00:00

Ed Zitron, founder of the tech PR firm EZPR, stated in the podcast The Diary Of A CEO that generative AI is essentially a scam, with the industry grossly exaggerating AI's capabilities, prospects, and financial status. He believes that AI is packaged as a magic solution capable of replacing all jobs and even curing cancer, but in reality, it resembles a set of expensive, unproven, and unstable cloud software. Zitron pointed out that the revenue of the AI industry chain heavily relies on a few companies like OpenAI and Anthropic, which are still operating at significant losses, and these companies depend on continuous funding from giants like Microsoft, Amazon, and Google. Zitron also questioned why large tech companies rarely disclose their actual AI revenues separately, often using vague metrics like annualized run rates to describe growth. He believes that while AI is a real technology, the business narrative, revenue expectations, and capital cycles surrounding it have far outpaced actual profitability.
