Delay in the Adoption of the Cryptocurrency Regulation Law Until Autumn
The final adoption of the bill regulating virtual assets, originally scheduled for August, has been postponed until autumn. Member of Parliament Olha Vasylevska-Smahliuk noted that the document may not be adopted even within this timeframe. The main reasons for the delay include a lack of agreement among regulators, particularly between the National Bank and the National Securities Commission, as well as resistance among deputies who are owners of crypto assets. Vasylevska-Smahliuk emphasized that finding votes for the adoption of the law will be challenging. The bill, which has been in development for four years, aims to legalize the virtual asset market in Ukraine. Further delays could negatively impact Ukraine's commitments to international partners. The head of the parliamentary Finance Committee, Danylo Hetmantsev, previously stated that the bill is expected to be adopted by August 2026. The bill establishes tax rules for individuals and legal entities, including a preferential income tax rate of 5% for individuals on assets acquired before the law comes into effect.
