Tokens held by DATA Foundation's team and lead investors did not unlock on Aug. 13 as previously scheduled. The organization, formerly known as Story Foundation, announced on June 25 an 18-month extension for these token lockups. The new unlock date has not been specified, and it remains unclear when the 18-month period begins. The Foundation has not confirmed if the new unlock date is February 2028, which would result from adding 18 months to the original date. The February update had already postponed the initial unlock date from Feb. 13 to Aug. 13, 2026, while keeping total supply and allocations unchanged. The Foundation introduced a neutral automated smart-contract mechanism to enforce the revised lockup framework, but details on affected wallets, token quantities, or whether the June extension used the same mechanism are not provided. The original token distribution allocated 21.6% of the 1 billion-token supply to Early Backers and 20% to Core Contributors, structured to unlock over 48 months. The June extension specifically names the team and lead investors without including all insiders. No changes to community allocations or staking rewards were mentioned. The Foundation also rebranded itself and its tokens, changing from Story Foundation to DATA Foundation and from $IP to $DATA. As of now, the next release date for the locked tokens remains undisclosed.
