Anthropic has committed to labeling all content generated by its models, including Claude, using watermarks and metadata. This commitment follows the signing of a Code of Practice in accordance with Article 50(2) of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act, which will come into effect on August 2, 2026. The EU AI Act, adopted in 2024, serves as the regulatory framework for this sector. The Code of Practice pertains to content labeling. All new Anthropic models will label generated content from day one of release, with generated text containing watermarks and files including metadata in accordance with the C2PA standard. The labeling will persist during text copying or editing. The rules apply to Claude (API), Claude, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, and Claude Tag in all jurisdictions where the service is available. A transition period is provided for existing models, with the final deadline for implementing labeling set for December 2, 2026. Anthropic is working on adding this mechanism to existing models and will publish details later.
