Altman: Humanity Has Entered the Technological Singularity, the Era of Superintelligence Is Busier
In a recent interview, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that humanity has entered the technological singularity, a concept that was once a joke among him and his colleagues a decade ago. Altman emphasized that technological progress follows a continuous exponential curve, and there may not be a clear "singularity moment," but we are currently at a critical stage that will determine the direction of this curve. He pointed out that the most important competition today is between "AI authoritarianism and freedom." Issues of safety, alignment, and employment are real, but no single model or company should become the "god of machines." AI needs to have guardrails and empower more people with its capabilities. Altman categorized AI products into three waves: the first wave being chatbots, the second wave being programming agents, and the third wave being resident agents, which he expects to arrive soon. He believes that stronger AI will not lead society to a "four-hour workweek"; rather, people's expectations will rise, leading to the creation of more things and continued comparisons with others. Altman predicts that in the era of superintelligence, humanity will actually be busier, even though people may complain, they might secretly enjoy it.
